Aaaaahhhhh, the lovely cummins erg system. I would be checking the little "spaghetti lines" that go from the egr differential pressure sensor for being plugged with carbon. Thats a big problem , more on the ism's but same design on the isx's . Could be the turbo actuator valve not moving the variable turbo correctly, but just enough to not throw.
Discussion Starter · #3 · Apr 7, 2008. ok, i think what went wrong was: 1) when i put in my fp gauge and everything was ready to go, i started the truck without bumping the starter. Therefore, i had to loosen injector lines 1 and 2 from the valve cover. This procedure worked to get the truck up and running, however, i didnt loosen the 3, 4.
Most all the truck dealers I've talked to say the ISX is better than the Accert Cat's and the 14.0 Detroits, the EGR valve is the only common problem . I have a '99 KW with a C-12 Cat that currently has a cracked block and will take about $15-18k to fix, no more yellow motors for me.

It's not a huge up and down surge but you can sure hear it when you stand by the truck when it's idling and it's annoying, but once you get in and step on the throttle the surging dissapears.

May 21, 2010 · I've an 07 Volvo 780 with Cummins ISX 500 and 500k miles, still on original turbo and egr. Lately it started rough idling on a cold start only. Tach idle keeps on fluctuating for 10-15 min or so, at some points almost feels like stalling then settles in, not 100% stable though. No codes or errors shown!.
